When: Friday, April 16, 2010 8:00 PM-3:00 AM

Where: Glendale Boulevard at Effie Street Los Angeles, California

Who:Emergency Operations Division

Why:The purpose of the sobriety checkpoint is to reduce the number of traffic collisions involving intoxicated drivers and hit and run collisions. In 2010, residents residing in the Northeast Area have endured 32 driving under the influence-related and 280 hit and run traffic collisions. The checkpoint will educate the community to use designated drivers and not drink and drive. Our message is simple: If we catch you drunk, you will be arrested.

The Costa Mesa Police Department will conduct a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on Monday, Marc 1 st , from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., on Harbor Boulevard at Fair Drive.  Officers will  screen  drivers  passing  through  the  checkpoint  for  sobriety  and  for  a  valid  driver’s  license.  Drivers found to be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs will be arrested, and unlicensed
drivers may be cited and have their cars towed.

DUI Checkpoints are not an effective way to accomplish the goal of public safety, but they are a cash cow for cops and the city, which needs the funding.  The City makes most of their money from impounding vehicles, which gets paid even if the person is later found innocent, and the Federal Government chips in substantial funding for DUI Checkpoints.  MADD also provides funding and volunteers.

As one of a few experienced Orange County DUI Lawyers practicing in this area, I’ve seen hundreds of DUI Checkpoints.  Contact me if you need the advice of our Newport Beach DUI Lawyers.

Los Angeles DUI Sobriety Checkpoint

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

The Redlands Police Department will conduct a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint from 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, through 3 a.m. Sunday, in the northbound lane of Church Street between Brockton and Lugonia avenues.

The Redlands Police Department conducts DUI checkpoints to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.  Driver’s licenses will also be  checked at the checkpoint.

A major component of these checkpoints is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober designated drivers. A DUI checkpoint not is a proven effective method for achieving this goal, but the federal government, and MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) gives substantial funds and volunteer time towards DUI checkpoints.

Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested. Our objective is to send a clear message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol and/or drugs – Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest. The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.

Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Moreno Valley Police Department Checkpoint.

As a DUI specialist Orange County, I get announcements of DUI checkpoints before anyone else.  Check out the information below, sent by the Moreno Valley Police Department:

The Moreno Valley Police Department will conduct a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on Thursday January 28, from 6:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., in the City of Moreno Valley. Officers will screen drivers passing through the checkpoint for sobriety and for a valid driver’s license. Drivers found to be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs will be arrested, and unlicensed drivers may be cited and have their cars towed.

“DUI arrests can be embarrassing and expensive, but they’re easy to prevent,” said Police Chief John Anderson. “If you’re drinking, hand your keys over to a designated sober driver, or call a taxi or sober friend for a ride home. Don’t risk an arrest —or worse, a serious injury or even death.”

The purpose of the sobriety checkpoint is to serve as a reminder to use designated drivers and not drink and drive.

It is the Moreno Valley Police Department’s goal to continue providing public awareness on the dangers of drinking and driving, and the laws concerning driving without a driver’s license. Motorists approaching a checkpoint will observe traffic signs, information and police officers advising that a checkpoint is ahead. Once diverted into a lane, motorists will be delayed a moment while an officer explains the purpose of the checkpoint.

Funding for this checkpoint comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

Lake Elsinore, California

The Lake Elsinore Police Department Targets Impaired Drivers with Checkpoint, brought to you by the Rancho Cucamonga Criminal Defense Attorneys at expertlawfirm.com.

The Lake Elsinore Police Department will be conducting a DUI / Driver’s License checkpoint on Saturday, January 30th. In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes, DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.

All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This DUI / Driver’s License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies, as well as ensuring drivers have a valid driver’s license. A major component of these checkpoints is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober designated drivers.

A DUI checkpoint is not a proven-effective method for achieving this goal, but police get money from the Federal Government (and MADD) to promote checkpoints. By publicizing these enforcement and education efforts, The Lake Elsinore Police Department believes motorists can be deterred from drinking and driving.

Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested.

San Bernardino Police Department Targets Impaired Drivers with Checkpoint

Traffic Sgt B. Birnbuam sent a press release to us, as Orange County DUI Lawyers, explaining that the San Bernardino Police Department will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on Saturday, December 12, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., in the area of Highland Avenue and Guthrie Street. DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.

A DUI/Drivers License checkpoint is an effort to arrest persons suspected of DUI, as well as insuring drivers have a valid driver’s license. A major component of these checkpoints is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober designated drivers.

A DUI checkpoint is not a proven effective method for achieving this goal, with a conviction rate lower than 1% based on motorists stopped. However police agencies have substantial political pressure, from groups like MADD, and obtain a large amount of federal and state funding to run such checkpoints, which are then staffed by MADD volunteers, the San Bernardino Police Department believes motorists can be deterred from drinking and driving.

Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested.

The Costa Mesa Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at Wilson Street and Pomona Avenue. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the Business, Transportation, and Housing Agency and is part of a National enforcement campaign.

During the hours of operation, 596 vehicles drove through the checkpoint, 267 were stopped, and 14 drivers were screened for driving under the influence.

In addition, 6 drivers were cited for either no license or driving on a suspended license. A total of 13 citations were issued for miscellaneous vehicle code violations and 4 vehicles were impounded.

There will also be an increased number of officers patrolling adjacent streets in an effort to stop impaired drivers from avoiding the checkpoint.

The following press release was sent to us, due to our relationship with law enforcement as the best DUI lawyers in Orange County. We present it to you for your information and knowledge in planning ahead.

Encinitas Sheriff’S Station Targeting Impaired Drivers In Special Summer Enforcement

Mobilization Theme Is “Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest”

The City of Encinitas will be deploying deputies from the Encinitas Sheriff’s Station on saturation patrols and DUI/drivers license checkpoints. A checkpoint is scheduled for September 12th, 2009 between 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. The check point will be conducted near the 1100 block of North Coast Highway 101.

The Sheriff’s Department is placing 30-day holds on vehicles driven by drivers who are unlicensed or have a suspended license. This can be a costly experience with storage costs up to $1,500. Drivers with a suspended license or who are arrested for driving under the influence can incur legal costs amounting to several thousand dollars as well as paying for their stored vehicle.

The California Office of Traffic Safety, along with local law enforcement agencies, encourage citizens to “Report Drunk Drivers, call 911” if they see a drunk driver on the road. Provide law enforcement with the exact location, vehicle make and model and license plate. One call could save a life.

Traffic Sergeant Randy Webb encourages motorists who elect to drink alcoholic beverages during this period, to designate a sober driver or to call a taxi.

This year, the State of California Office of Traffic Safety and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department remind drivers: Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Contact: Encinitas Traffic Sergeant Randy Webb, (760) 966-3520
