Costa Mesa Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint on April 4, 2008. During the hours of operation, 1,460 vehicles drove through the checkpoint and 496 drivers were screened. Police conducted 22 DUI investigations resulting in 5 DUI arrests.
This is a 0.003% success rate.
In addition, 8 drivers were cited for driving without driver licenses, 2 for driving on a suspended license, 3 drivers were cited for not having a CDL in their possession and 2 cited for possession of marijuana in their vehicle. A total of 4 other traffic citations were issued for miscellaneous vehicle code violations and 12 vehicles were impounded.
Police will conduct another checkpoint on April 28, 2009. (See separate blog entry announcing April 28th DUI checkpoint.
