Sent to our Orange County DUI Lawyers from the Seal Beach Police Department:

The Seal Beach Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Saturday, March 13, 2010, from 8pm to 3am on Pacific Coast Highway between Anderson and Seal Beach Blvd. In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes, DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.

All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This DUI/Drivers License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies, as well as insuring drivers have a valid driver’s license. A major component of these checkpoints is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober designated drivers.
A DUI checkpoint is a proven effective method for achieving this goal. By publicizing these enforcement and education efforts, The Seal Beach Police Department believes motorists can be deterred from drinking and driving.

Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested. Our objective is to send a clear message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol and/or drugs – Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest. The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.

Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and if you have any questions, contact our Newport Beach DUI Lawyer Robert Miller at (877) 568-2977

Our Orange County DUI Lawyers were notified of an Orange County DUI Roving Patrol announcement, which may lead to Orange County DUI arrests.  The “Avoid the 12” DUI Task Force will be conducting DUI roving patrols in the cities of Lake Forest, Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita on Friday, March 5, 2010.

A roving patrol is where officers drive, looking for persons exhibiting driving behaviors correlated with driving under the influence, and investigate further.  Roving patrols are more effective than DUI checkpoints, as they correlate with actual driving observed.  The goal of the program is to btain federal funding available, volunteers and funding from MADD, and increase funding through impound fees.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

For more information contact the OC Sheriff’s Department Public Affairs Office at (714) 647-7042, or feel free to contact our Newport Beach DUI Lawyers anytime.

Cypress Police Department Targets Impaired Drivers with Checkpoint

The Cypress Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Saturday, February 20, 2010, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., on Valley View at Phyllis Drive. In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes, DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.

Seal Beach DUI Checkpoint set for March 13, 2010

Friday, March 5th, 2010

The Long Beach Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on Saturday, February 20, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The checkpoint location will be northbound Atlantic Avenue at Harding Street.  As mentioned by a recent study from the University of California Berkeley, DUI checkpoints are major money for the police, even though they don’t have either a deterrent effect on DUIs or result in many DUI arrests.

Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested.

Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with volunteers provided by MADD.  For further information contact Sergeant Tom Marcoux in the Traffic Section at  (562) 570-7295.  And, if you are looking for the best Long Beach DUI Lawyers, contact our firm at (877) 568-2977, as we are always happy to help.

Official seal of Anaheim Island, Orange County...
Image via Wikipedia

The OC Weekly newspaper informs our Orange County DUI lawyers of a DUI checkpoint located in Anaheim.

The Anaheim Police Department Traffic Bureau hosts a DUI Sobriety and Driver’s License checkpoint from 8 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday somewhere along Magnolia Avenue–and you’re all invited.

That is, you’re invited if you just happen to be driving along the targeted stretch of road. And you’re really invited if you’re behind the wheel and blowing over the state limit for driving under the influence, or if you forgot your driver’s license, or it’s been suspended, or you don’t have one.

This is the third in a series of six checkpoints scheduled over the next 10 months in Anaheim, and if you’ve been saying to yourself, “Damn, there seems to have been a lot of DUI checkpoints in Orange County lately,” you are right, Rummy!

That because law enforcement agencies have been tapping into funding for these anti-drunk operations provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Use it or lose it, as the bureaucrats like to say.

In addition to the DUI checkpoints, the funding helps departments conduct regular saturation patrols and warrant sweeps aimed at keeping drunken drivers off roads.

Our Orange County DUI Lawyers have learned that the “Avoid the 12” DUI Task Force will be conducting DUI roving patrols in the cities of Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel,  Laguna Hills and Laguna Woods on Friday, February 12, 2010.  These Multi-City DUI teams will target areas that have a high incidence of DUI-related arrests and collisions.

The goal of the program is to spend funding from the federal government and MADD specifically for DUI checkpoints, even though DUI checkpoints are not an effective way to prevent DUIs.

Orange County Sheriff’s Department Deputies are committed to working hand in hand with their contract city partners in providing a safe environment for the motoring public.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Orange County Sheriff's Department (California)
Image via Wikipedia

The AVOID website notes “special DUI Crackdowns on Super Bowl Sunday”, and they are coming.  We have more information about Orange County DUI than anyone, and got the following press release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Super Bowl Sunday is one of America’s biggest and most entertaining national sporting events as friends and families gather to socialize and watch the big game. That’s why the Avoid the 38 Orange County DUI Campaign is joining forces with the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to conduct countywide DUI roving patrols on February 7, 2010.

On Super Bowl Sunday 2009, 11 people died in California due to alcohol-involved collisions.  This is three times the daily average.  There were another 163 injured, which was over twice the daily average. In 2008 and 2009, more people were killed on Super Bowl Sunday due to alcohol-involved collisions than any other day during the year.

“We want to pass our safety message to everyone who will be drinking this weekend” said Sgt. J. Brittain of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Traffic Bureau. “Please make the right decision and pass your keys to a designated driver before the Super Bowl party begins. Getting caught driving while impaired will result in costly penalties including the loss of your driving privileges.”

Impaired driving crashes—and fatalities—can be prevented. Designating a sober driver should be on the top of everyone’s Super Bowl party list.  Here are some ways you can help save lives, too.

If you are hosting or attending a Super Bowl party:

•    Make sure all of your guests designate their sober drivers in advance, or help arrange ride-sharing with other sober drivers.
•    Serve lots of food—and include lots of non-alcoholic beverages at the party.
•    Stop serving alcohol at the end of the third quarter of the game and begin serving coffee and dessert.
•    Keep the numbers for local cab companies handy, and take the keys away from anyone who is thinking of driving while impaired.
•    Remember, you can be held liable if someone you served alcohol to ends up in an impaired driving crash.
•    Avoid drinking too much alcohol too fast. Pace yourself—eat enough food, take breaks, and alternate with non-alcoholic drinks.
•    If you don’t have a designated driver, ask a sober friend for a ride home; call a cab, friend, or family member to come get you; or stay where you are and sleep it off until you are sober.
•    Never let a friend leave your sight if you think they are about to drive while impaired.
•    Always buckle up—it’s still your best defense against other impaired drivers.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
